What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is part of Traditional Chinese Medicine. This science and art of healing has become widely accepted over the past three decades. It has now been established as a profession in Australia and has proved to be safe and effective.
Acupuncture is a form of natural healing which has the following major benefits:

•       Drug-free pain relief
•       Assists prevention against disease
•       Treats the cause as well as the symptoms
•       Effectively treats many common ailments

In TCM physiology the organs in our bodies each have a particular channel which circulates fluid, energy and blood to all parts of the body. If the circulation of the channel is blocked at any acupuncture point, a clinical symptom will appear. An acupuncture point is like a station point that when functioning properly regulates the flow of energy through the channel.

With TCM diagnosis we identify which organ or organs are in a state of imbalance and causing the stagnation. We then choose the appropriate acupuncture points and insert very fine needles into the body. Stagnation is cleared and the circulation of the channels is promoted so that clinical symptoms dissipate and are not simply masked over.

Normally we leave the needles in for half an hour. Through a series of treatments, the circulation at these points is freed and the clinical symptoms are relieved.
When consulting with a TCM practitioner one should always inform the practitioner as to what other medication one is and has been recently taking.
